DAHL CABIN
A "Speakeasy" Bar Defies Prohibition
Before Prohibition ended in 1933, this cabin operated as a "Speakeasy," or underground tavern. Talk flowed freely among miners who reopened some of Garnet's mines during the 1930s.
When Ole and Marion Dahl could legally start up Ole's Tavern, they made their home here. Over the years, Ole added a front porch, side porch and kitchen, which replaced a back porch. The story goes that Ole always resented the kitchen that cost him his favorite porch.
Ghost Town Protectors
The Dahls watched over the ghost town. Their presence helped to discourage vandals and others seeking to cart off historic artifacts. Marion Dahl lived here through the mid-1960s. She holds a place in history as Garnet's last full-time resident.
